As part of the EROP project activities, women In Need organisation assisted some school dropouts in the Gomoa West and Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam Districts of the Central Region to enroll in school again and continue with their education. As part of the EROP Project activities, young girls who dropped out of school due to pregnancy or childbirth are to be supported to either enroll back to school or learn a trade of their choice.
Undoubtedly, the Central Region is one of the most affected regions when it comes to teenage pregnancy. The region recorded over 10,000 teenage pregnancies in 2020. Most girls affected by this phenomenon drop out of school and end their education and chance to a brighter future.
Speaking at the short ceremony, the Executive Director of Women In Need (WIN), Susie Ama Korakoma Arku reiterated, “the EROP Project recognizes this initiative to be crucial in getting these young girls back to the path of self-development, as well as re-integrate them into normal social life”.
She further charged the beneficiary parents, the EROP Support Team members and other stakeholders present to support and supervise beneficiaries to successfully complete their education even after the end of the project. Girls who benefited from the back to school project were presented with various items for school. These items include school bag, uniform, footwear, books, pens, pencils and other stationery.
The beneficiaries and their families were very happy for the life changing opportunity given to them to continue their education.
