In order to involve in-school girls within the implementing region, the team first tried to seek and enlist unto the PERD Project. We identified and engaged two schools-Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind and Mephibosheth Training Centre which is a private school for people with disabilities located in Gomoa West district Apam. These schools are to benefit from the life-skills Training on the PERD Project.
At Mephibosheth, we met the director of the school of the school and introduced WIN and the PERD project to him and his administrator. We explained to them the project and the activity of giving life skills to WGDs to help boast their self confidence and self-esteem. They accepted and welcomed the WIN and the PERD project to their school. They said they are open to collaborate on the project for the welfare of their students. They added that they would appreciate if such a training would be conducted by one of their own so that the girls can trust the information and better relate to it.
INTERACTIONS WITH THE DIRECTOR OF MEPHIBOSHETH TRAINING CENTRE.
Cape Coast school for the deaf and blind was no different from Mephibosheth training centre. The assistant headmistress met with the WIN team and warmly welcomed us to school. The organisation and the PERD project were to introduced to the administration. She took us around the school compound. She stated that they are a boarding school who house the students during school time and release them during vacation. The school is from pre-school up to the vocational level. She introduced us to the deaf class of JHS one. With the help of their teacher who served as an interpreter between us and them our message was relayed and the girls were excited for our next interaction.
