As a woman led, gender focused organisation, WIN seeks to promote women and girl-child rights through the Welfare Approach. In this wise, we focus on how women can ultimately benefit from programs that supports their needs and enhances their wellbeing such as giving them information, counselling and education on various topics such as general health & hygiene, nutrition and SRH issues, to better equip women to play their reproductive role.
We also utilise the Equity approach by focusing on building the self-esteem and confidence of our women and girl-child. Thus we seek to promote women’s status, power and control through the mobilisation of activities geared towards women’s rights promotion and advocacy. We also achieve this through community sensitisation and education on Affirmative action and training on leadership skills and life skills, to enable women and girls to take up leadership positions in their communities and nation.
WIN as an organization is committed to the economic empowerment of women as an effective tool for poverty alleviation. In order to give special attention to the needs of women and girls, two main groups have been established.
The WIN Girls Club was setup to create an avenue for young girls to be taught and groomed into respectable ladies in the society. The focus of the club is to provide an avenue to discover and develop the individual talents of these ladies. Dancing, singing, public speaking and cooking are but a few skills that we have helped develop in the ladies of the WIN Girls Club.
The WIN Women’s Group is an association of women of the Bortianor community. This group empowers by educating and counselling women to be strong voices in the community for positive change. It also serves as cover and protection for the members of the group against domestic violence.
